A Slightly Curving Place

Alserkal Avenue, Dubai, 2022

‘A Slightly Curving Place’ is an exhibition curated by Nida Ghouse and presented by Alserkal Arts Foundation in Dubai (2022). The exhibition responds to the practice of self-taught acoustic archaeologist Umashankar Manthravadi and includes works by various artists, writers, choreographers, and musicians.

Composed of an audio play, a video installation and archival elements from Umashankar’s research, the exhibition is an invitation to listen to the past and its absence recorded in various archaeological sites in India. An ambisonic dome composed of 37 sound speakers invites the visitor to listen to a 50 min sound session including works by various musicians and sound designers.
